1. Selection of a good picture

It is important to pick a picture with good lighting and definition. If you are using a digital camera select a high resolution for your pictures, (large). Usually natural light is the best as a flash often takes away nuances of shadow and light. The picture on the left was taken outside with a digital camera, (300dpi), then was sent via e-mail as an attachment.

2. Approval of the sketch

Once the picture is selected and the size of the portrait decided,  I will draw a sketch of the proposed portrait. At this time a minimal fee, (typically $30) is charged to cover expenses.  This process usually takes no more than a week depending on the number of other commissions I have accepted. I will then e-mail the proposed sketch for comments. Once the client approves the sketch, the painting can start. On the left is an example of a proposed sketch that was submitted from the picture above.

3. Commission of the portrait

At this point we're ready to start, a 40% deposit of the total price is required. Typically a completed portrait of a one- subject head-shot (14x18) will cost approximately $400, (depending on complexity). I will communicate via e-mail about the progress of the piece. Shown to the left is the nearly completed portrait. Together with the client, (via e-mail), we discussed and "tweeked" certain aspect of the portrait for a satisfying finished result.

4. Delivery of the portrait

When the portrait is completed, it must be allowed to dry a minimum of 2 weeks. The balance of the payment will be due before the piece is delivered.
